Meet Team: Beyond the Gym

“Life is more fun when you “go for it” and you are an active participant in your life.”

Meet Beyond The Gym
This team of eight has conquered The Battlegrounds together three races in a row! We spoke with Casey, team captain of Beyond The Gym, on the team’s journey and experience.

What 3 words would you use to describe your team?

Fun. Encouraging. Adventurous.

What is the goal behind your team and how did it start?

Our goal is as our name implies: to challenge ourselves outside of the gym. What better way to do that than to challenge ourselves at The Battlegrounds and reward ourselves after?

What is the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome in your life and did your team play any role in helping you overcome it?

Although I’m very competitive, I don’t like the anxiety that I get with large group events. I’ve trained for triathlons and enjoyed the training, but always panicked on race day. The Battlegrounds provides a fun, relaxed atmosphere – and participating with a team makes it an event that I look forward to every year.

What does life’s better when battled mean to your team?

Life is more fun when you “go for it” and you are an active participant in your life. Success or failure, at least you can say you tried.

What is your team’s favorite Battlegrounds obstacle?

Just one favorite?! So many we love. We liked the Triple threat quarter pipe wall because it’s crazy difficult and you have such a feeling of accomplishment when you get over on your own. Although my taller male partners would say The Gauntlet is a favorite because if it’s challenges.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

You don’t have to be an elite athlete to participate in the Battlegrounds. Our team has participants that won awards for their age group and participants who just come for the fun of something unique. It’s a great place with diverse abilities.

My Battle Advice

Set a goal and work backward. Setting a goal for your mind and body helps to motivate you to take the necessary steps in the gym (and with your nutrition) to accomplish those goals.
