What 3 words would your friends use to describe you?
Original. Determined. Loyal.
What is the biggest obstacle you’ve overcome in your life?
Becoming well after being diagnosed with a chronic illness. After a lifetime of not really giving much thought to health and wellness, turning 40 hit me like a Mac Truck. After a week-long scary hospitalization of endless tests, and arms that looked like badly bruised pin cushions, I was released on serious medications that needed to be closely monitored. I had to inject myself with a needle three times per day, and was diagnosed with a chronic illness and a new life of bi-weekly blood draws and regular doctors visits. I wasn’t ready to accept this new life – not yet anyway. So I ditched the processed food, white flour and soda, and I began to exercise regularly for the first time in my life. My doctors saw improvement and gave me hope that I may not have to live with a chronic illness for the rest of my life. I later discovered the difference between root cause medicine and conventional medicine. The root cause medicine physicians looked at my genetics, my enzymes, my inflammation and my nutrition, and treated them to remove the reason my body began attacking itself. An anti-inflammatory diet removed the chronic inflammation I had, and over time my body healed.
What does life’s better when battled mean to you?
Although I would not wish for my hospitalization and diagnosis of a chronic illness, the fact that I am now well makes life that much richer and valuable. Life will throw you many challenges, but life is so worth fighting for. Never give up no matter how hard it gets.
What’s your favorite Battlegrounds obstacle?
I have to say anything mud was my favorite. Where else is it okay to be a complete kid again?
